What's Your Dream?

The movie 'Pretty Woman' begins and ends with a scene where a homeless man is yelling at people on the streets of Hollywood asking them, "What's Your Dream?". So today, I ask you, What's yours???

As a child, we all had dreams. It may have been to be a movie star, a professional athlete, an astronaut, a super hero, or even a prince/princess. To be honest, the list goes on and on. As children we are told we can be anything we want to be. So why do we stop believing in our dreams as we get older? In my opinion, it's because it's hard. As a child we believed that if we wanted it, we could just do it. We never stopped and thought about the work that we would have to put into it.

At this year's Galactic Gathering we will have various guests who all reached their dreams. I am sure that there will not be any that will tell you that it was easy. Life still happens and obstacles get in the way, walls will stop you in your tracks. You have to WORK to achieve goals and dreams and never give up, even when life makes it hard. In the book, The last lecture, Randy Pausch writes,

"The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough."

How bad did you want something that you stopped at nothing to get it? I am sure there were people at NASA that saw the Apollo 1 fire as a brick wall. But if everyone had looked at it that way, would we have ever made it to the moon?

In July, Virgil I Grissom Memorial, Inc. will host the Galactic Gathering 2023. We will have astronauts (of course), a Hollywood actor, and an Olympic gold medalist. They all have amazing stories of how they reached their dreams. I would bet that the one main thing they have in common is that they worked hard and they never gave up.

If you have stopped reaching for the stars, well, start it back up. You should never stop following your dreams. They may not come as you expect but you may find that with hard work (and maybe a little luck), you can achieve your own version of success.

We would love to have your join us in Mitchell on July 21-22, 2023 to meet these amazing men and hear their stories. Maybe they can inspire you to start dreaming again.

Tickets can be purchased on our website at www.gusgrissomboyhoodhome.com.
